SMS Group Services has commenced its project delivery for the supply of scaffolding services to Fremantle Ports after being successful in its bid for a new 3-year contract effective July 2018.
SMS Group Services is fast becoming the preferred option as a Western Australian owned company capable of supplying scaffolding and rope access services plus sentry services (Confined Space Management) to major clients and projects.
Business Development Manager for SMS, Ian Lewis attributes the company’s recent success to its growth strategy planning, which is aligned to the State Government’s More Jobs For WA plan. As well as the Fremantle Ports contract for scaffolding supply, several other major works have been awarded in the last 18 months, including the MSP Engineering Tianqi Lithium project in Kwinana.
SMS supports that more West Australians should be employed in the scaffolding and sentry services sector and has in place a successful Women in Mining programme providing work opportunities to more than 30 women trained in the safety areas of Confined Space Management. SMS wants to increase that number as well as looking at Indigenous training in scaffolding through its RTO division of the company.
Business owner Mark Welsh believes that by selecting WA companies for West Australian projects and contracts local businesses gain confidence to continue to grow and be sustainable. SMS can build on the entire services offerings, skill more West Australians and assist with local work placements.
